Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in southern China, said on June 8 that HKSAR government was looking forward to strengthening cooperation with the Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City.

Lam made the remarks at a meeting with Wang Xudong, Director of the Palace Museum, at the Government House of Hong Kong.

Lam extended her gratitude to the Palace Museum for the loan of its collections to Hong Kong for display in many large-scale exhibitions and its consistent support of the building of Hong Kong Palace Museum so that valuable cultural relics may be exhibited in the region for a long time.

The Palace Museum has worked closely with the HKSAR to hold the Palace Museum Youth Internship Program each summer since 2017.

The program is designed to expand the horizons of attendees and enrich their appreciation and sense of protecting cultural relics.

Lam hoped that more cooperative projects between two sides would be initiated to increase local people's understanding of Chinese culture and arts.

After the meeting, Lam attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between Wang and Dr Leung Siu-fai, Director of the HKSAR's Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.

According to the memorandum of understanding, the HKSAR will transfer a collection of woods to the Palace Museum for repairing cultural relics and ancient buildings.
